Hope in the Storm

Hope

We are living in extraordinary times. Are you tired of hearing that yet? There are times in our life that we need to find some hope. It is only natural that when life throws us difficulties, struggles, and hardships, we naturally seek solutions. Just turn on the news! Every day, the news cycle is filled with chaos, strife and despair! Difficulties are a part of life. There will be times of grief and pain. I promise, there is Hope in the Storm! We just need to know where to look.

Hope

What is hope?

Are you grieving the loss of a loved one? Or are you struck by the struggle of others because of the injustice so clearly displayed on the tv every evening. There are many obstacles which we are dealing with in our new experience of sheltering in place in order to stop the spread of a pandemic. In order to find hope, we must have a working definition. Hope is defined as, “An expectation or belief in the fulfillment of something desired.” (Baker Encyclopedia of the Bible (Grand Rapids, MI: Baker Book House, 1988), 996.) It is reassuring to know that there is something better going to happen even if we cannot see it now. Hope is found a Person.

Where do we find help in the storm?

I always look to God’s Word. One of my favorite passages reads, “I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD (Yahweh), Who made heaven and earth” Psalm 121:1-2, (ESV). Dear ones, He has already done it all! Look up for your redemption draweth nye 🙂 (Yup, I grew up with the King James). Our hope is just a breath or a whisper away.

1 Peter 1:3-6 states, “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,  to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time”(ESV).

Check out the Word

One of the best things we can do when we are in a struggle of any kind. Check out what the Word of God says on the subject. Here is a list of some passages to read more on the subject of hope.

The first and last place we need to run to is to our Adonai! Jesus is the source of our hope! I pray that you know that you can find hope, and you can find peace in the midst of your storm by looking up!
